About the Houston Ballet
The Houston Ballet began as a dream in 1955 of the members of the institution's foundation. Beginning as a school, the hope was to eventually develop into a professional company. This dream officially came into fruition in 1969 under the leadership of former professional dancer, NINA POPOVA. Today the Houston Ballet has lived up to the original vision as it is the fifth largest company in the United States.
The company consists of over fifty dancers which forty percent of the dancers are groomed from their own professional academy. At present, the company has seven Principal dancers including Lauren Anderson and Simon Ball, and eleven soloists. Touring nationally and across the world to cities such as Hong Kong, Toronto, and Moscow, the Houston Ballet has been welcomed with great applause.
The Houston Ballet is known for their original dance pieces such as Indigo, Peter Pan and more recently, Tales of Texas. Furthermore, the company has collaborated with other famous companies to create pieces such as Firebird, Dracula and The Snow Maiden.
