Fitting brand name Ballet Pointe Shoes

In order to properly fit Ballet Pointe shoes it is important to first determine the size. Ballet Pointe shoes have different sizing than street footwear and will vary depending on the brand the dancer is looking at. Here are a few ideas to think about before buying.

The length of the sole should not go beyond the heel when on Pointe, otherwise this is too long. The width is also important to fit accurately in Ballet Pointe shoes. One must remember to assess the width both standing and in full releve to ensure the foot feels snug but not pinched. In addition, the joints of the toes should not be exposed above the block of the toe as then this would then be too small and narrow.

The strengths and weaknesses of the dancers foot should be considered when fitting Ballet Pointe shoes. For example, some dancers will need a stiffer shank if they have a large arch as they may tend to break the shanks too easily. Or other dancers may need a softer shank to help accentuate the point of the foot.
